Birthday Party for a 4-year old girl.

Everyone heard about the impending birthday of the Emperor’s daughter and wanted to make a good impression, or at least not piss off the (arguably) most powerful person in the known world.

The gnoll fondly remembered his early years in the pack. He decided to give the Emperor’s daughter the best gift he received, at that time: a femur from a stag he helped to kill (with only the pack leader’s teeth in it!)

Dax considered the protocols for gifting to a royal child and came up with a polished steel hand mirror, decorated with copper and brass filigree. The word “HERO” was etched proudly on the back.  He included a note that said “If you ever want to see a true hero, look into the mirror”.  He considered making the mirror out of silver and glass, but worried that a young child would damage the soft metal and cut herself on broken glass.

Johnnie Boi gifted the child a small low-poundage bow, similar to the one he got on his 20th birthday. He said you can never be too young to start your heroic training.

Boo left a fairly heavy package for the small child.  It was a 18 inch bamboo shaft with a coconut attached to one end, the entire thing was  filled with sand and decorated in colorful birds and smiling faces. Boo pointed at the island mace, then his flexed bicep, then he laughed and wandered off.

V’LorWrenn showed up with a leather bracer, four gold pieces, and a small dagger. He began to chant and sway as a bubble of chaos engulfed the items, causing them to spin and dance and morph into something new. He snatched the pieces out of the bubble and presented a charm bracelet to the girl. Three runes were hanging on the jewelry; strength, perseverance, and self reliance.  He then whispered, at a volume only the child could hear, “Learn them quick and learn them early.”

Dancer presented a lovely blue silk dress, with ruffles and buttons, to the little girl. She squealed and grabbed the dress, but dropped it almost immediately, when she felt the unexpected weight of the clothing in her arms. The metal thread and silver lining of the dress gave it a great shape but also made it quite heavy. “Always remember, in this dress, you can become strong while remaining pretty.”

In the child’s bedchamber, on a small table, next to a dragon coloring book, sits a snow globe that was not there a moment before. It is filled with tiny bones and a flurry of red snowflakes. If you stare intently and think of a creature, the bones with shudder and form into that creature…and then it will wave.  At night, sometimes that creature will whisper to you, as you sleep.

Log #002 – One night in Newport

A tavern respite

Boo visits a local store

Treats for everyone!

I wasn’t sure about these guys, at first, but they are connected in Newport! They know the governor personally, the town calls them the champions of the Elven Queen regata (or some such), and they have a private booth in the best tavern in town.

I gotta send a fruit basket to m’lady for this assignment.  It is waay better than the three months I spent with the wuiger-cult lizard-men. Though, I did learn how to strip out a crockolisk and convert it into a shelter and observation platform. But that is a different story.

Tonight was filled with drink, stories, making connections and team bonding. Boo disappeared for a couple of hours and came back with glowing pouches full of med supplies, from a nearby magic shoppe. I was right. We gotta start swapping stories.

Log #001 – Reassignment

A joker escapes

Through a wondrous portal

A herald walks in

So, today m’Priestess reassigned me to a new outfit. They seem a capable enough bunch. I saw them beating the crap out of a mechalich, when I first walked in.

My orders were received, reviewed and accepted by the Gnoll Lt. He even let me keep my rank! I can only hope that is a sign of his wisdom and not a sign of a lazy leader.

The current mission was completed, so we all headed back to Newport. I took the opportunity to learn what I could about everyone. This group is a menagerie of strangeness but I can tell they will jump into hell itself to save each other (see: Korynthian Spark).

I think we will get along just fine. Especially the big guy with the island dialect. He claims to be a champion of The Priestess, as well. I can’t wait to swap stories with him.

Gambit’s Run

Sitting on Greenlit Street, near the docks, in Newport, stands the newly opened Gambit’s Run tavern. A well run establishment, stocked with a surprising wide assortment of food and drinks (unavailable to most).

This establishment was founded by Dameon, a man with great power and a dark past.

Other key employees include:

Ellie: A waitress of comely face and caring demeanor. She is always willing to try and find whatever a patron is in the mood for (food and drinks, only!)

Moss Tumbler: A blackjack dealer who spends more time trying to figure out how to ‘make it big’ then he spends on watching the table.

Evangeline: A Half-Elf Waitress of middling age who looks like her best years (and dreams) are behind her.

Dax Steelheart Introductions

On the walk back, Dax goes up to each of you and tells you his story. It is an epic tale that would span hours, if we had the time.

Dax was created as a Dwarven-Forged soldier, to fight The Orc Lord armies. In his final battle, Dax and his company’s other War-Forged and Dwarven soldiers were slaughtered, defending the escape of hundreds of villagers.

The Priestess watched the battle upon her winged horse and decided to reward the company for their selfless bravery. She reassembled all of the best parts of the soldiers, Dwarven and Dwarf-Forged, into a single being and breathed life into it.

That is Dax. Now, we wanders the land telling great deeds and performing greater ones.

Dax then asks each of you two questions:

  1. Please give me a brief description of who you are and what your role is in this band?

  2. What do you think of each of the other characters in this group?

Tell him what you think your character would tell him.

Korynthian Spark

Spark grew up above a bakery, in Glitterhagen, where he street ratted with his friends. At 14, he joined the Cirque du Koru traveling circus and spent five years, on the back of a giant tortoise, learning to become a world-famous acrobat.

All of his traveling gave Spark a curiosity about the world, so he retired from showbiz, returned to Glitterhagen, and studied History, eventually getting his degree and a professorship. While teaching History, he was approached by a representative from the Dungeon Delvers Consortium, to research a couple of artifacts they looted. This meeting lead to another and another. Soon, Spark was diving into the living dungeons with them.

This lasted until the ambush that killed everyone in the Consortium, except Korynthian. He escaped, with some help from his magical boots, given to him by The Priestess.

That was when Spark met up with our adventurous group. He used his trapfinding and acrobatic skills to great effect, stealing an enemy’s weapon and using it against them. That was, until he met Rex.

Rex was a reincarnated wizard that took Spark on as an apprentice. Spark was a quick study and started slinging spells after only a week. Many people found the flavor of the spells…distasteful, but Spark knew they were the perfect tool for his new goal in life. He wanted to marry The Priestess.

The adventuring continued and his skills broadened. Then, he learned of a lair that included the grimoires needed to become a lich. Spark realized if he could understand how a lich is made…he might be able to find out how to unmake one. Well, one in particular…The Lich King.

Now, with tomes in hand, Spark begins his new quest. He is going to topple The Lich King and take his place, among the Icons.
